An upcoming teaching ground
Located adjacent from a school, we plan to turn this space into a multifunctional teaching project.
The surrounding neighborhoods suffer from food scarcity and economic hardship due to many societal factors.
We plan to use this land to demonstrate the use of permaculture techniques, educating groups from the school on land stewardship so they have the knowledge to help make our world a better pl;ace.
The garden hosted on the land will also be open to the community for cultivation and harvesting, providing a place for hands-on experience to be gained.
Something that has been lost in our modern world is a connection to the food we eat and the soil which grows it.
We hope to empower the community to take back one's ability to grow their own food and lessen our reliance on our fragile modern logsitcal system, one which imports food of decaying quality from thousands of miles away
The soils of this area is also commonly affected by creosote poisoning caused by certain compounds used in railroad construction leeching out over decades.
One of our goals is to use bleeding-edge bioremediation techniques to reduce, and eventually reverse the prescence of these carcinogenic compound in the soil.
This process involves the utilization of certain plants, fungi, and bacteria such as Rhodopseudomonas palustris, to immobilize and break down creosote and other toxic chemicals
